When Mommy got to the hospital, she wanted to check to make sure that my heart rate was normal and that her contractions were normal. They attached two sensors to her tummy. The bottom one listened to my heart beat and the top one measured her contractions. This is the machine that the sensors are connected to. The top number is my heart rate and the bottom one measures the intensity of the contraction. In this picture my heart rate is 147 beats per minute, and her contraction is just starting at 6. It will go up to 100 or more as her contraction gets stronger. If you look at the paper tape below you can see the contractions. This paper shows the contractions that the nurses measured with the machine. The first contraction was about 70 and lasted for less than a minute but the second, which came about 5 minutes later, was almost 90. By the time Mommy was ready to deliver me, her contractions were long (about 1.5 - 2 minutes) and very strong and the time between contractions was about 2 minutes. |
